|
Introduced as a TV movie in 1975, Starsky & Hutch became an instant success as the first high profile police duo series featuring Dave Starsky and Ken Hutchinson as streetwise detectives.
Starsky & Hutch's 1974 Gran Torino
Fans of the series loved the gritty and often violent plots and unusually for the time, the close friendship between the two main characters providing the prototype for the "Buddy cop" format still used today.
THE CAR
They drove a 1974 Ford Gran Torino with the now legendary v-shaped white stripe and was affectionately known as The Striped Tomato. They used the police radio call sign "Zebra Three" as they patrolled the streets of Bay City.
In 2004 Starsky & Hutch came to the screen with stars Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson playing the lead roles. The film was a box office hit and has left people wanting a sequel.
